What is Ketamine?

Ketamine is an FDA-approved anesthetic that is also used to treat mental health conditions such as depression, trauma, PTSD, and anxiety.

Ketamine treatment can be given in several ways, including injections into a muscle (IM), into a vein (IV), dissolving under the tongue (sublingual), nasal spray, or oral pills. You and your provider will choose the best method for you.

Ketamine works by helping reduce symptoms and supporting the brain’s ability to heal and grow. Through this treatment, you can move into a new season of your life — with more hope and healing.

What is Ketamine Assisted Therappy (KAT)

Ketamine-Assisted Therapy, or KAT, is a mental health treatment that combines the use of ketamine with therapeutic support. While ketamine can reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other conditions on its own, the addition of therapy helps you process your experience, gain insight, and make lasting changes.

At Just a Season, we view KAT as a way to support you through a difficult season and help you move toward healing. With guidance from your licensed therapist, KAT creates space for new perspectives, healing, and changing your story.

Each KAT experience is personalized by you and your therapist and may include preparation sessions, integration support, and collaboration with your therapist or a trusted coach — all in a safe, supportive environment.

KAT can be a powerful tool to help you move through a difficult season and begin a new chapter with clarity, compassion, and renewed strength.

What can Ketamine and Ketamine Assisted Therapy (KAT) help treat?

Ketamine and Ketamine-Assisted Therapy (KAT) can support healing from a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges — especially when other treatments haven’t provided relief.

These treatments — and more — may be helpful for individuals navigating:

  • Depression, including treatment-resistant depression

  • Anxiety, panic attacks, and chronic worry

  •  Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Suicidal thoughts or ideation (SI)

  •  Current substance use or reliance on substances to manage emotions

  • Childhood or complex trauma

  • Grief and loss (recent or long-held)

  • Chronic Pain

  • Bipolar Spectrum

  • Low self-worth, shame, or deep self-criticism

  • Emotional numbness, disconnection, or feeling “stuck”

  • Life transitions, identity shifts, or spiritual crises

  • OCD and obsessive thinking patterns

  • Relationship wounds or attachment difficulties

  • Body-based distress, such as somatic trauma symptoms

At Just a Season, we recognize that these experiences are not life sentences — they are seasons of your story. Ketamine and KAT can offer a powerful pause, allowing space to shift painful patterns, reconnect with your sense of self, and begin healing from the inside out.

How Does Ketamine Work?
Ketamine works by affecting a neurotransmitter in the brain called glutamate, which plays a key role in mood regulation, memory, and learning. Unlike traditional antidepressants that target serotonin and can take weeks to show effects, ketamine often brings relief within hours or days.

By increasing glutamate activity, ketamine supports neuroplasticity — the brain’s ability to form new connections. This can help interrupt stuck thought patterns and emotional pain, offering a sense of clarity or relief. Ketamine also creates a short-term dissociative state, which can give people space from overwhelming emotions and help them gain insight into their inner experience.

What Are the Possible Side Effects of Ketamine?
Ketamine is generally well-tolerated, but like any treatment, it can have side effects. Some people experience:

  • Dizziness or lightheadedness

  • Nausea or an upset stomach

  • Changes in heart rate or blood pressure

  • Feeling a bit disconnected or “out of body” during treatment (this is normal and usually temporary)

  • Mild headache

  • Fatigue or tiredness after a session

Most side effects are short-lived and go away soon after treatment. Your care team at will monitor you closely and support you throughout to ensure your safety and comfort.

If you're interested in ketamine-assisted therapy but don't currently have a therapist, we're here to support you. Just a Season can connect you with a trusted preparation and integration coach who will walk alongside you before, during, and after treatment — helping you make meaning of your experience and integrate insights into your life and story.

We believe healing is most powerful when it’s supported with care, reflection, and guidance — and you don’t have to do it alone.
